On Wednesday, November 17, 2010, Pine Run HSA will be participating in our first Race for Education! We invite family and friends to join us in raising funds to bring technology to Pine Run classrooms, such as document cameras and CPS student response pads (handheld devices that allow students to respond to questions so that teachers can instantly access students’ comprehension to their lessons). Each student can raise funds by asking friends and family to sponsor them in the Race for Education.
Students will walk or jog around a fun-filled 1/4 mile course as many times as they are able in one hour's time. Students and classes will also have an opportunity to compete for a number of prizes based on their participation in the Race for Education. Specific instructions are contained in the material below. Please join us in this very special event. We look forward to seeing you on November 17th!
Sincerely,
Amanda Mumford, PhD - Principal
Hildy Bothwell & Ashley Doyle - Race Co-Coordinators
Cristina DeMatteo, Ed Fell, Kathleen Jack, Barb Murray, Eve Packel - Race Committee
RACE FOR EDUCATION “FACT SHEET”
Are you interested in helping Pine Run HSA raise funds for technology in the classroom, such as document cameras and CPS student response pads which are handheld devices that allow students to respond to questions so that teachers can instantly access students’ comprehension to their lessons?
.
Would you like to be involved in a program that has successfully raised between $50.00 and $75.00 per student in public schools across the country?
Would you be willing to give a minimal amount of time to help our school raise needed funds?
Race for Education is an annual jog-a-thon, which involves students walking and/or jogging around a 1/4 mile area for one hour.
The success of Race for Education is based on students bringing in the names of people who are potential sponsors for the jog-a-thon. However, there is no “house-to-house” sign-up of potential sponsors. It is all done by filling in a label sheet of names - for every 10 names that a student brings in, our school should receive at least $75.00 in contributions.
Potential sponsors may be family members, relatives, close friends, and neighbors. Special emphasis should be placed on out-of-state relatives and friends. Also, the people you do business with are a great source of names, e.g., barber, dentist, doctor, piano teacher, etc.
Our Race for Education will be held on Wednesday, November 17, 2010.
“Kick-off” information about Race for Education will be sent home with each student next week.
There are incentives and prizes to help promote the success of Race for Education, which encourage student and classroom participation such as Pine Run Pencil, Homework Pass, Extra Recess, Pine Run Owl Water Bottle, Movie & Popcorn Party.
Race for Education is great fun for students, no hassle to parents, and will fully benefit our school’s educational program! Best of all, a successful Race for Education will eliminate the need for many HSA fundraisers you are asked to participate in throughout the school year!
